1. Something about an overcast day game in San Francisco with the Giants in their classic home whites makes for an aesthetically pleasing picture. Maybe I'm weird, maybe I'm the only one, but I stick by this observation.
2. A week into the season and I'm fully on board with baseball's pace of play in 23. I'm not saying the new rules are perfect, but it's really rejuvenated the viewing experience for me.
3. Fun to see some of the big bats finally go yard.
4. After the last few years, it's going to take a lot more than two starts to convince me that Keller is for real. That's going to be a "wait-and-see" type of thing. Maybe check back with me around the All-Star break. But you gotta start somewhere to get to that end goal, and so far the results have been encouraging.
Greats points, Patrick. I’m with you on all of them. With a note on #4. While I’m skeptical that Keller will get consistent results, I do think he has a better than usual chance due to the fact he seems to have fully bought into the curve as an effective pitch. It’s not the Singer changeup dance.
The pitchers have generally looked quite good this year, especially the starters, and that's certainly encouraging. I continue to have hope (nothing more at this point) that the coaching changes will benefit most of the pitching staff.
But we have to remember that Brad Keller looked almost unhittable early last season until he fell flat on his face. It's far too early to draw conclusions. OTOH I have to admit that if that's true for the pitchers it's true for the hitters as well.
Agree on the starters (and Keller). It’s early days, but there’s reason for optimism. Maybe I’m reading far too much into what I’ve seen, but they look comfortable. Just from a mental standpoint, having new faces and philosophies in the dugout has to be a lift.
From a moral/ethical POV I'm still extremely uncomfortable with Chapman being on this roster, and in fact I'm uncomfortable with him being in MLB at all. But from a pure baseball POV it can't be denied that it's worked out well for the Royals so far. Let's hope that continues until they trade him!
The sooner Chapman is traded, the better. Besides, if he does well early, four months of a rental should bring a better return than two months. Get him outta here before Memorial Day!
I'm glad to see that you agree. I'm hardly some far-left "every woman is a victim" type of person. But some women really ARE victims and some men, like Chapman, are really good at being victimizers.
Given his enormous size and strength that can hardly be difficult for him, which makes his cruelty and cowardice all the more reprehensible.
FYI a friend of mine who is a KCMO cop tells me that for every incident like this that comes to light there were almost certainly several more that went unreported. I won't speculate on whether that's the case with Chapman or not but it's a sobering thought.
My quick thoughts on today's fun win.

Alternate Title: IS THE ROYALS BULLPEN DOMINANCE BACK!? (Not clickbait)
You won’t believe slide #6!!!!
