Sorry, but I trust there's life on Mars more than I trust MJ can be counted on in the clutch.

He seems to be ALWAYS off-balance when he swings; I want him to succeed so badly, but . . .

For idiot typist me, a big key is if Salvy can recognize and lay off those low outside sliders that are

never meant to be strikes. He has become an automatic strike out when he gets to strike two in the

count. Does he not recognize how they're going to come at him?

I understand Salvy feels his role of Captain is to be aggressive, try for the big hit, but criminy he KILLS the team's chances more often than he succeeds when he gets two strikes on him.

Salvy swinging at the slider off the plate is just part of his baseball DNA. You just hope he can reign it in this month.

I'm with you on MJ. You can't count on him. But you can be pleasantly surprised when he comes through. If that happens.

I've got to think those lefty numbers against Ragans come from small sample sizes/only the best lefties being allowed to hit against him.

The Royals have an excellent chance to win this game, and they'd better or I feel certain they'll get knocked out on Wednesday.

I never like to use the single season splits because that's truly a small sample. It's useful to look at that single season up against his career splits. This year, the trends held. So I think this is a thing with Ragans. Will be interested to see how he handles Soto in particular.

It's a must-win game. But they're all pretty much must-wins in October.

One of the biggest reasons I got rid of my Athletic subscription was the fact they had no replacement for Alec Lewis after he left to cover the Vikings. That and the NYT bought it out and started posting ads...I digress. I'm hoping tonight we come away with a "holy crap" game from BWJ. He's been due to have a multi-hit, multi-RBI game.

I hear you on The Athletic. Nothing ever stays great for long anymore. There’s still value there for me because I read all the baseball I can get.

We are due for Bobby to have a “get on my back” kind of game. A couple of sparkling defensive plays, one moment of amazing baserunning and a bomb or three.

I do miss some of the writing. Namely Nate Taylor, Tim Nguyen and Mike Sando. The problem for me is that I am really not a casual baseball fan anymore. It's Royals and that's about it for me. I've lived outside of the KC area for the last 13 years and never felt the need to follow the Cubs or Brewers while I lived in those two cities. I don't really watch/listen to any national shows either, so I have no idea what is being said on the "national" level. The crappy debate shows on ESPN and FOX Sports ruined it for me. I miss Sportscenter when they showed highlights of everything. Now I'm just a 40-something "get off my lawn" when it comes to sports coverage. Newsletters like yours, Craig, are really the only thing I go to for opinions on my KC teams.

Glad I can provide some useful info and keep you plugged into the Royals. :)

I think when it comes to baseball, you're a fairly typical fan...Into YOUR team and that's about it. It's a more regionalized game now. I wouldn't watch a "show" on ESPN or any other sports outlet. Only games for me. And I get really annoyed at this time of year when I lose the local broadcasters—the guys and gals who truly know their teams and the league—and have to suffer the "national" guys. Brutal.
