Man, if they had blown a 7-0 lead that would have been the final nail and we could have all quit twisting over the Trade Deadline.
India had been hot before the break, then he reverted to pulling everything and . . . you know. Should he be shopped? Right now the best part of that trade was moving Singer.
Garcia has gone straight south since being moved to cleanup; did it mess with his head? Should Salvy be moved back there?
It is just plain weird how the offense can do so little with pitchers with fat ERA's, or who have been recently knocked around, or are complete nobodies. Uncanny, weird, whatever. It's just senseless.
Am I understanding right? Lorenzen pulled his oblique while throwing up? That's just dandy.
It's, at least from the perspective of finding a definitive path forward at the deadline, almost a worst-case scenario. The Royals lost two out of three to fall back another game, but also could have easily won all three games with a bit more luck or talent. The kind that could be added at the deadline.
I know everyone wants to sell, but I am still voting to buy, I think. The kinds of pieces the Royals need are cheap. And watching winning baseball is more fun.
They need to be pragmatic. If the Royals can add someone who can help in the very near future, that’s a move they have to make. There’s not much in the farm system that’s ready. Picollo needs to supplement any way he can.
I don’t see a path to October for this team. But that doesn’t mean a tear down is in order. They need to be sellers in that they need major league ready players in return. Hitters. Package a Lugo with a reliever to get a better player. Reload to make a run in 2026.
The focus should be on 2027 and 2028, not this year or next year. That’s when their younger talent may emerge. Years of poor drafting and development (and not having Steve Cohen as the owner) have left the Royals with no other rational choice. Last season was a bit of fools gold and the team needs to focus on the latter half of Bobby’s window before his opt out.
I think the Royals need to get on with the trading, I don't mean they need to do it today, but they need to know they are SELLERS and not buyers. There is very little about this team right now that screams "competitive". Lugo and/or Estevez should bring back something that will help in the future. Lugo is a dominating starter and Estevez normally pitches with good luck. The Athletic intimated that the Royals were dangling Garcia and India in a trade to try and obtain some power. Go ahead and trade India but keep Garcia. He may develop power one of these days. Just about a year ago, I said I thought he could be a .270-.280 hitter with a dozen or so home runs. Although that is not optimal, it is sure a lot better than most of what the team has. It is time to make a deal and put this season to rest.
Q and Bubic both said he was recovering from whatever bug he picked up over the break. So I’m not super concerned at the moment. As long as it bounces back in his next start.
Against all reason i think this team will either make playoffs or miss by just a loss or two. Its my gut - which i will admit is less reliable as the years go by

Feel like Quatraro did us a favor by moving Garcia to cleanup on July 1. Makes it easy. Anyway, he’s hit .196/.233/.250 since then. Woof.
I hadn’t heard that about Lorenzen. Possible metaphor for the season.

I agree. No one wants to watch us run out the stretch to get that great draft pick, Let’s actually do something

I really don’t think you can waste another year of Bob.

I wouldn’t put Garcia in the “untouchable” category, but I’m not sure what the market would be. And India just seems very…average.
With you on Lugo and Estévez and any other reliever.
How concerned should we be that Bubic's velocity was down? By getting him out after 66 pitches, does that somehow allow his arm to recover?
Q and Bubic both said he was recovering from whatever bug he picked up over the break. So I’m not super concerned at the moment. As long as it bounces back in his next start.
Sell. I wouldn’t want to see Garcia go yet I would like to see what he’d bring. There should be two untouchables on this team. Bobby and Jac.
I agree.

That’s some optimism. I don’t think it’s crazy, but too many things have to break their way over the next two months.
