I'm not sold on Brentz. One thing consistent with Brentz is that he ALWAYS walks guys. A lot of guys, too, too many guys, everywhere he's been, and at every level, and every season. Like 6 or 7 per nine innings. Hope its Lovelady instead. Agree that Staumont doesn't start the year on the 26 man. I think we may see 14 pitchers with 9 in the pen and Zuber gets the last spot. Its my understanding that the 13 man limit has been waived for this year but I could be wrong.
Great points and I'm not sold on Brentz either. I think he's the guy they go with to start as I'm just not optimistic they see enough in Lovelady for some reason. Just my gut feel.
I also don't doubt we see 14 pitchers on the roster at some point, but with the off days scattered the first couple weeks of the season, I'm thinking they may go with 13 to start. They will have to find work for the 5th starter.
Your take is understandable. The Royals have had a quick hook with Lovelady in his 4 separate stints with the team. None of them lasted much more than a month, and two of them were just for a day or two. Granted he has struggled at the MLB level but his MiLB stats are just so darn good.... The Royals have no good options at LRP. I thought they might sign someone like Oliver Perez. Even with the long bullpen, I'd keep Lovelady and keep him to low leverage situations, ideally against mostly LH hitting lineups.
