Since you posted this, the team announced Vinnie has a broken thumb and it looks like he's done for the rest of the year.
All hope isn't lost, though. Salvy can move to first and Fermin can become the primary catcher. That's the better defensive alignment for this team, anyway.

A bunch of mediocre hitters got dropped on waivers. The Royals surely can get ONE of them to fill in as a DH/OF/1B. None will be Vinnie, but they might be close enough to keep things going. While they wait for the waiver claims to go through, I expect Austin Nola to be recalled.
This is the correct take. Vinnie's injury doesn't actually hurt the Royals as much as you might think (and once again I'm proven wrong in my early-season suggestion to trade Fermin).
I'm much more worried about the possibility that Erceg is going to miss significant time. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE John Sherman, give JJ the OK to put in a waiver claim for Taylor Rogers.
I would expect the Royals are sweating the waiver wire big time at the moment. Rogers would be a guy and now the need is there for a bat. Their record may prevent them from landing the top players available.
There are also probably some hitters available that haven’t been reported. Going to be a very interesting afternoon to see how the Royals cover this. Definitely Salvy at first for most of the reps. They need to find just a bat that can be league average down the stretch to keep the lineup productive.
