Overall, the grades reflect the dumpster fire we've seen through 81 games, but there are some positives, including a surprise at the head of the class.
I thought your grade was too high for BWJ and a little low for Garcia but I totally understand your thinking. No major complaints here at all!
On a completely different topic: Daniel Lynch posted ten 3-ball counts in his first four innings against the Dodgers. No wonder he averaged nearly 22 pitches per inning! One of the newly-declared pitching geniuses in the organization should probably tell him that's not a good idea no matter who you're pitching against.
I'm still bullish on Witt and Garcia is the one guy who I would buy a ticket to watch play. My hope is by the end of the season, both move to the proverbial head of the class. They desperately need both to perform.
Maybe Lynch forgot to wear his "Raid the Zone" t-shirt?
A couple of weeks ago I posted elsewhere that we fans could perhaps be forgiven for wondering if "raid the zone" had somehow morphed into "raid the beer cooler."
Garcia, Garcia, Garcia ... and seems like BWJ is slowly adjusting his approach, numbers creeping up, to my non-expert eye doesn't seem to be jumping on first pitch / bad pitch nearly as much as early in season ... good summary / like the grades, except Pasquatch maybe a little low.
Mr. O'B, I grade this post a straight-up A: your best-written, most entertaining YTD. LOVE "contact-ability" and look forward to its Oxford acceptance. Speaking of heart-broken, I weep at the thought that Salvy's free-swinginess (look at me!) may be the only thing that keeps him out of Cooperstown.
You're a tough grader, but it's good to see you writing again!
Thanks Erika! Earlier drafts were a little more...kind. But with that record, I couldn't justify too many A's and B's.

It hurt me to dole out Vinnie’s grade. Thinking about it…should’ve given him an “incomplete.”

Thanks, Terry. I may use “free-swinginess” someday. And that could very well be the think that keeps Salvy on the outside of the Hall.
