Getting players in trades is like the draft - never know what will happen. But I am happy / surprised really to see the willingness to move players. I am excited to see the progress of Singer, Lynch and Bubic. So I think that last few weeks have shown we could be see some real improvement. The next 60 games are all about setting the table for next year.
When I was a kid I had an LP record, "Baseball: The First 100 Years," narrated by Curt Gowdy. It featured lots of clips from old radio broadcasts. I listened to it endlessly, and the snippet that has stayed with me more than 50 years later was the recording of Scully's description of the final strike of Koufax's perfect game. Thanks for sharing that transcript this morning. It made me feel like I was 13 again.
Baseball is the one sport I enjoy more on the radio than TV. Telling / listening to the story is how I enjoy the game. I can see the highlights later..
Sometimes, the bare minimum can feel like a victory, but I completely understand that thought. I wasn’t sure any moves were coming. I’ll have more thoughts in the newsletter in the coming days.
It seems entirely possible they didn’t move anyone else because they know they need to win next year for a job. Trading Barlow etc doesn’t help anyone there keep a job even if it is best for the organization. Kinda feels like we might be to that point?
I think you could make the argument they didn’t make some trades because they would lose more games this year. Subtracting Barlow and Staumont from the pen would be examples. But that’s how the Royals always seem to operate. Beware false September surges.
I need to tackle this one...Short answer: the Royals don’t think he is an everyday guy and they have better options available. Think you’ll see an infield of Witt Jr at 3rd, Lopez at SS and Massey at 2nd for the rest of the year.
Makes sense and I’m glad to see Witt playing at 3B today. I still think it makes more sense to keep Rivera and DFA O’Hearn but he seems to have a permanent spot on the active roster.

As the clock ticked to the deadline, I honestly didn’t think any moves were happening. But they did really have to move Merrifield. Glad they did.
I’m hoping for a level-headed assessment of these last two months. We shall see...

Thanks, Mark! Glad I could take you back. It’s poetry isn’t it?

Yesterday seemed like the bare minimum to me.

Not seeing a lot written about the Rivera trade but I just can’t make sense of it - why ship him off with so many years of control left ?

Haha...well, yes.
Keith Olbermann has rebooted his old "Countdown" show as a podcast, & kicked it off today with a very sweet eulogy of Vin. Absolutely worth a listen.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll check that out.
