Dozier could be traded... He'd be a good NL DH... I'd trade him for a couple of draft picks or some team's excess depth (good bat) at any position. That would clear some more payroll.

I think Dozier’s underwhelming offensive track record, along with his current contract structure, are prohibitive for the Royals when shopping him. There would be a hefty “Dozier Tax” on any sort of trade that I’m not sure the Royals would want to pay.

It depends... We could get an additional PTBNA depending Dozier's output. Because the real benefit is to open a roster spot for next year.

On another subject, Miguel Sano could be a temporary patch @ 3b... One year with a club option for '24... His bat has been a nightmare to us... Not sure what he's worth @ age 38, but even if he plays 110-120 games, he could help.

FWIW, Mondesi had promise, but few results. Taylor can be flipped at the deadline as left-handed relievers are at a premium, so the real returns on this deal are still a bit up in the air.

Mr. B, is it just me or is there a lot of irony in trading an injury-prone Mondesi for

a lefty pitcher who missed ALL of '21 with an injury? PS - thx for the ref to Caro's

epic biography.

Ironyman strikes when you expect him the least. And I'm a huge fan of Caro.

Mondesi's departure is bittersweet for me. I bought into him in 18, and even though the sensible part of my brain gave up on him being a star a few years ago, I couldn't help myself. Every spring I would talk myself into the possibility that this would be the year he put it all together, only to be disappointed over and over. I guess I don't have to worry about that this year. But I was in the building to see him blast that HR against Boston in 21. I believe it's the longest in Kauffman Stadium history. So we'll always have that.

The wild thing is I feel like the Royals gave him every chance he deserved. Injuries obviously didn't help the cause, but at this point, a trade was the best outcome for everyone involved. I'll be rooting for him to turn it around in Boston.

I will too, but that can be bittersweet as well. I'm wishing him well, but if he ever does put it together for the Sox my first thought will definitely be why couldn't he just do that in KC? Baseball can be an exercise in frustration sometimes. As a lifelong Royals fan, you'd think I'd be used to it by now. But Mondesi got in my head more than most prospects.
