Thanks, Don. This may have been my favorite post of the season to write.
Agree on Willie Wilson. I know there've been guys like Dyson, but nobody could motor around the bases like Willie. He's the only baserunning comp I'd make to Witt at this point.
Luvullo, no one thinks you told the pitcher to do it. We think he's a coward and a jerk who pitched inside carelessly because he's rather hit him than give up a single. You're the one who has lost control.
Literally think Bobby's legs are a blur going around second base.
Reeks of grandstanding. I get protecting his pitcher (in a way), but as I wrote, once it happened, intentional or not, events were going to play out in a certain way. He looked foolish for reacting that way.
I've never before gotten an opportunity to watch a superstar bat every night. This is just absolutely outside of my life experiences and I don't know how I'll ever watch baseball again after Witt eventually retires in 20 years or whatever.
HE IS ONLY 24! THIS ISN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE HIS PRIME, YET
Yeah, and I loved watching those guys play. But deep down I always knew I wasn't watching a Pujols or a Trout or McGwire or whatever the real superstars were like. The sensations I feel while watching Bobby, especially after his coming out party at the derby, have finally put that all into perspective.
A comparison to George Brett is heavy. But I don't know who else in the history of this franchise you can realistically compare Bobby to. Since I was still in diapers when Brett was at this stage of his career, I have to imagine it, but my guess is this is what it felt like to watch a young number 5.
He’s just amazing. I remember saying the same thing when watching Brett. And Willie. Yeah, I’m old.
Good write up, Craig.

I remember that baseball card! And I was thinking he should be bunting in the 8th inning, but I guess I’m just a greedy cycle hunter, too.
No bunt. Swing away.

Right? Since Brett, there’s been guys like Damon, Beltran, Hosmer/Moustakas/Salvy…good players. Occasionally great. Nobody shines like Bobby.

Heavy is a perfect word. I didn’t want to do it. I don’t want to do it. Yet I don’t know how to write about the guy these days without doing it.
Bobby has to get to October. And soon.
Ah Brett and record stores... i may not have the satisfaction of pulling the cellophane off a new cd lately, but I get to watch Bobby
The tradeoff is worth it? I think so.
