Seems to me the bottom five of the order is the real culprit in the offense's decline. Just doing some simple math: since the end of the perfect homestand and ending with Monday night's game, the bottom five have accounted for 40% of the offense and it gets much worse when you discount the only two games they were any kind of factor at all. Something's gotta give. Fast.

MJ has cooled off, as has Velazquez. The bottom third was always going to be an issue but if they’re intent on playing Isbel for defense, he’s certainly hitting in the right spot. There’s also Garcia at the top who needs to find his groove. The hope is that Massey can provide some solid production but otherwise the Royals will need to look outside the org to get help.

Thank you Craig Brown for not paywalling your content. I’m about maxed out on paying for coverage at this point. It’s a bit disappointing that David Lesky requires payment now but here we are. I love your work but I can only pay for so much. Thanks again.

Haha… appreciate that. I don’t begrudge anyone getting paid for their work, but I just don’t know that it’s right for my newsletter.

I was not pleased when I heard Frazier was in the DH slot but I can't dispute that was a nice swing. Maybe he's about to break out.

Break out may be a stretch, but if he can get on base at an above average clip it could help me shake that dejected feeling when seeing him in the lineup

We’re about halfway to where Frazier’s walk rate will normalize. Currently at 15% which is amazing for him. If it dips over his next 60 PAs, he could be really underwater offensively.

I’d settle for a moderate stretch of decent PAs. But my expectations remain low.
