The McArthur injury news makes me wonder whether he was injured all during the season. I mean, you wouldn't think the guy would pitch through an elbow fracture, but Wacha pitched most of a game with a broken toe and Chris Stratton was apparently injured for almost all of last season.

This also reminds me that Carlos Santana claimed he was injured for most of one his years with KC. At the time, people were talking about how players will blame bad seasons on injuries, but based on how good he looked last year, I wonder if he might have been on to something.

Basically, I really don't trust the Royals when it comes to injury stuff.

Part of that is incumbent upon the player being forthright about their health. But yeah, the Royals have always kept the injury news tight.

Chris Stratton, injury or not, is just not very good. When they bring him in they have to know he is going to give up some runs, that is what he does. He has a lifetime ERA of 4.53. The Royals signed him hoping he could put together a couple decent seasons, I don't think he has it in him.

I think the contract will help him make the team. But JJ and his staff are a little more clear-eyed about performance and if Stratton doesn’t have enough left, I’m confident they will move on from him quickly.

I sure hope you are right. I know they were hoping for a positive twist on a pitcher that has had samples of time where he pitched well.

It seems Kyle Wright is the Royals Schrodinger's cat. On one hand he can be thought of as being perpetually on the 60 day IL. Never available to play. On the other hand he can be thought of as the 2022 version of himself when he threw 180 innings with a 3.19 ERA and led the National League in wins. I understand that spring is a time of unbridled optimism and every glass is half full, but its fun to dream on this guy and what he could mean for this team.

I will remain hopeful he can give the Royals some meaningful innings. Maybe in the second half where it’s like that proverbial trade deadline addition that’s not really a trade but a guy returning from injury. He’s always been a low-risk/high-reward potential play and I’ll get behind those all day long.

I really though Lorenzen got signed to be the swing man and Bubic and Marsh would be the leaders to be in the rotation with Noah Cameron - provided he continues to be sharp in AAA - as the next man up.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in that role, but for now, it sure seems like Lorenzen is penciled in for the back of the rotation. Give me depth, some more depth and when you're done with that, add a little more depth.

Do i just have rose colored memories, or did they used to broadcast tons of spring training games? I have vague satellite recollections of a single camera setup with ambient noise or sometimes no sound at all. Wish they would just put an intern in the stands with a live cell phone feed- I need some baseball now!

Hmmm...not sure I remember anything like that. I do know that when they do an audio webcast, Steve Stewart steps away with a, "And now enjoy the sounds of spring" announcement and instead of ads, it is just...ambiance. Which is kind of comforting.
