I wasn't sure how I felt when I first heard Ned was coming back. He obviously has a history with Picollo, but he's more of an old school guy and I wondered how that would mesh with a more progressive front office. I'm still curious how that relationship will work, but reading the quote you shared about his mindset and what he'll actually be doing already has me feeling more optimistic about it.
I am with you a bit on Ned. I wasn't sorry to see him go and I'm not excited to see him return. However, I am guessing as fans we won't hear much about him. If he can help one of our young catchers major league ready, all the better for the team. Fermin is a good backup but the Royals will need a "most of time" catcher soon.
Agree. I think the time away will be good for him. And like these special advisor type guys, they get to work on their own terms and do it just because they like being around the game. Like you said, if he can help any of the catching prospects in the system, that's going to help the team immensely.
Yeah, I get the concern and I share those. But he seems willing to do whatever is asked and I'm sure he understands how Picollo and Quatraro are going about things. If he can help any one of the younger catchers in the system, that's a win.
The Fountains Up slogan has me absolutely baffled as well. Generally, I feel like a slogan is supposed to tell me something about the team or give them or me an impetus to do something. Fountains Up just does not do any of those things.
But yeah, it's not something I'll think about much. I don't even remember what last years was, now.
Exactly. It's something that you think about in February and then space on it the rest of the year. I appreciate their commitment to given us solid content.
Too bad QT doesn't put their soda fountains in the ballpark. They have the best fountain drinks anywhere. I don't know what makes them different but they are the best.
i assumed Fountains Up was a reference to a Royals home run, when they turn the fountains up, but that was just an assumption on my part. it's definitely ambiguous.
I had seen that mentioned somewhere but it seems like a bit of a stretch. Yet it may be the best explanation I've heard up to now. We can roll with that.
I stopped reading any of his responses at a certain point, because he had an annoying habit of starting every answer with "No..." like the reporter was an idiot for asking. And then the rest of the answer would usually confirm that what the reporter had asked about was indeed correct. Used to drive me nuts.

Clearly it’s a presidential golden shower reference. Just riding the election, uh, wave.
Love the PFP GIF; wish I’d been a fly on the wall at the marketing meetings around “Fountains Up” (was there simply no competition?).
I was thinking, I haven't made a new GIF in a while...PFPs!!!
The slogan does feel very much like it was tossed into the pile and then no one could come up with anything better. Which...ok.
It's better than "Fountains Down"? ( looks around...shrugs )
That’s too close to “Watership Down”. Copyright issues. Also, rabbits….
Maybe the fountains up is a subliminal message to make fans think of QT soda fountains. Lol

No argument from me.
Fill it with Coke and then we're talking.

I love that journey for Ned. Maybe he can give Q don't pointers on how to deal with stupid questions from the media. That was good fun in hard times
We need to bring back Andy McCullough.
