I also got a good vibe from Massey's very special play.
I cursed when J-Ram dumped that short fly in for their run. After he had barely stayed alive on a foul tip the pitch before, I thought, oh $#!t, here we go again.
R's did a superb job of containing J-Ram this series and the team benefited hugely that Steven Kwan has fallen off a cliff in the second half.
Watching Lugo is such a pleasure - he is an absolute maestro on the mound.
I know everybody wows about Ragans' stuff, but to me Lugo, is the ace of the staff; surely the clutchiest guy recently.
I was at the K last night, and maybe I'm projecting my own feelings on the crowd (although I don't think I am), but you could just feel the weight on both the team and everyone in the stadium. It got worse with every stranded runner and then when Cleveland plated the first run, it took on an almost funeral feel. I described it to my friend as feeling like a dam about to burst, the Royals just needed to find a way to get that first breakthrough, and when Pham hit that dinger the mood in the stadium went from night to day.
I would completely agree with your observation. It’s a different vibe when the team is good and scuffling versus when the team is awful. Everyone is on edge. Been that way all series. The stakes are enormous now that there are actual expectations.
Absolutely. I feel like I'm pretty good at putting baseball in its proper perspective before and after a game, but during the game, it can sometimes get a little iffy, especially when they're in contention. But hey, that's what makes baseball great, right? Right? Yeah, let's go with that.
Not that I like to point out a mistake, but I believe our magic number is now 17. You said yesterday morning it was 19 and we cut two off of it last night. It is crazy we have 4 teams behind us with 70 losses. The old timers always watched the loss column as the true barometer of your lead. Once you have lost those games you can't get them back. So, by that we have a 5 game lead ove all those teams. Thanks Craig fo your good work.
Now it's time to go on a run. This team definitely has a 10 game winning streak in it, right?
As hard as the losing streak was to endure, I think it's fair to note that the Twins are also 3-7 in their last 10 games, except they're on a 2-game losing streak. Great opportunity this weekend to jump them and effectively lock down the 5 seed.
Poetry- exact word i was thinking last night when I wished i had the talent to compose “An Ode to Michael Massey”. It was so great to see him and witt click again. Maybe the only thing I miss about ‘23 was the crazy shovels/ double plays those two would turn on what seemed like a nightly basis. Bummer about Masseys back, and hate to bring up but think i know/saw his tell of ‘crap i tweaked my back’. He spits. Guessing he plays thru the pain as long as possible this point in the season, Pham may have awakened the next level bulldog in him
I am a little worried about Lugo, he cracked a smile and even sounded mildly excited postgame ;)

Good point on containing Ramírez. The dude is just a machine so when the Royals can get around him, expect good things.
And agree on Lugo. He’s the stopper for sure.
When was the moment I knew they were going to win?
When Massey came through with an RBI single. That felt like the removal of the shackles that would let them play their style of ball again
It was nice to see them get the line moving. Even if it stalled for a moment before Pham came up. Lordy, did they need that.

Baseball is fun. If it doesn’t kill you.

I’m in.

I think I used some old data. Thanks for the correction. Don’t want to shortchange the magic number!
We’ve had the Salvy Splash for a while, but last night we had the Salvy Slide!
Spent a little time workshopping Salvy Splash/Salvy Slide/Salvy Swim move last night. Probably far too much time.
