Youth is coming. Olivares has earned more playing time. Witt Jr. has earned more playing time (not that he was ever getting pulled). I believe Isbel has also earned playing time and should be a 4 game a week player - 2 in CF and 2 in RF. The next 2 spots more playing time needs to be given an opportunity is via Emmanuel Rivera and Vinnie Pasquantino - they have been killing AAA. I also believe the corresponding cuts should be Carlos Santana and Ryan O'Hearn. Melendez is here because of an injury and 2021 stats. I hope he seizes his opportunity and never goes back to Omaha.
I love Whit Merrifield but he needs a day or two off. I was surprised to see we guaranteed his club option for 2023. With the glut of players in AA and above that play a position he blocks, it really surprised me. Couple that with 4 years of steadily declining numbers and it was flat out shocking. I hope a few days off and the move to 2B make the difference and he gets it back on track.
Watching the same starting nine day after day as the offense as a whole circles the drain is discouraging. I know the Royals love to be patient, but really they may as well start making moves, some of which will be painful.
Circling the drain is discouraging - in particular because you already know where you are - in the S*&^#ER. But what's even more discouraging is management is acting like they don't know that's where we're at...
Yes, it does stink. Historically so. I couldn't agree more on who should sit and who we should move on from. There is literally nothing to lose - we're already the worst in a few categories as you pointed out. AND, we already know what we have with what we have been playing - let the kids play!
Lastly, for crying out loud in the rain, please FIRE Terry Bradshaw - he rode the wave of Hosmer, Moose, Salvy and the bunch from the Minors to the majors and excepting that wave, hasn't done squat.
But here's the catch on that - the talent in that wave was SUPPOSED to be good, and it turns out they were. But I would argue they weren't any better than advertised. Besides Whit, and arguably Salvy - who has he developed that turned out to be better than expected? For every ONE player anyone can name that he coached to exceed expectations, I can name at least FIVE that did NOT reach expectations. TB - you gots to go!
I would not be surprised if there was a coaching change midseason. They've done it before and with the success of the minor league program, they certainly don't have a shortage of candidates in house.
