Hey Craig. Nice piece. Re: Salvy's homerun. As I watched and listened, I too thought the broadcast team (Ryan) was saying the ball hit the foul pole, but upon reflecting for a second believe they said the facing, as in the front of the upper deck. Or are you replaying the audio, too, and I'm all wet?
Thanks, Clark! I think Lefebvre did say facing of the upper deck. But the Mariners broadcast very definitely said it hit the foul pole. You can view their call here:
I’ll trust them over the Royals crew, since they’re actually calling it from the stadium. And! I’ve now watched this video even more and can definitely see where it hits. About three-quarters of the way up. In the gif I posted, it comes directly down in front of the city names on the scoreboard.
Makes sense that it did hit...as I watched I was sure it was going foul. Well, after watching that clip so many times, guess you can give your eyes a rest...off day today. :)
Seems like circumstances have conspired to provide a scenario in where it might make the most sense to bench MAT and see what Mondesi could do in center.
I am totally on board with moving on from Taylor. They can figure out center and how to keep Merrifield/Lopez/Mondesi/Olivares in the lineup. Will they (bench Taylor)? I doubt it.
They were weirdly giving him lots of days off to let Dyson play before they stealth-waived him. Maybe they'll just let them split time out there based on matchups? Or maybe Olivares and Benintendi become the platoon instead.
Taylor has started all but 4 games in CF since the break. I get the Royals desire to get plus defense out there, but on an expiring contract for a rebuilding team, he’s surplus to roster requirements.
