When the Guardians scored two to make it 4-1, it felt like 40-1. I made the mistake of watching some other games this past week, and those teams (Braves, Phillies, Yankees, Orioles) might as well be in another league with their hitters. No wonder the Royals fare so poorly against quality opposition. On the positive side, overall this season is an improvement & Picollo can see the holes that need to be filled to get to that next level.
I think there are a few tiers of teams this season. You have the elite which are the teams you mentioned. Then the teams that are generally good, which is where the Royals live. That means they’re good enough to qualify for Manfred’s expanded postseason but not good enough to make a deep run. They’re fodder for expanded TV ratings.
But you hit the general and most important point: this Royals team is much improved. The future looks bright. No matter how the next 23 or so games play out.
Kinda wonder if mayhaps the Baseball Gods are taking pity on the Royals in light of the bad luck with
Vinnie: The Red Sawx pitching has evaporated, Twins can't hit all of a sudden. Hmmm. Nah, that can't be; Baseball Gods are a bunch of heartless, soulless bastards.
Also wondering if the hitters aren't processing through the stages of grief re: the lineup's l;oss of Vinnie. They're stumbling around as if stunned and lifeless.
Well, boys, you'd better hurry and get to the acceptance stage.
This whole game was like watching a train wreck . . . in slow motion.
They remain in the driver’s seat. Which is the best place to be. But this does feel like an entirely different team without Vinnie. Even when he’s scuffling, he’s a proper presence. He’s going to be missed down the stretch.
I am one of those people who believes you NEVER leave a game until it is over. I also usually force myself to watch the whole game at home as well, assuming life or the chatty neighbor doesn't demand my attention.
Unfortunately I have missed a few innings this week as I HAD to clean out my inbox, check on an amazon order, and confirm my reservations for a trip that is a month away, so thank you for the late inning recap.
Hopefully I won't need to go thru all my subscription services tonight, deciding what to keep and what to trash can be terribly time consuming

Here’s hoping you can delay your decision on Paramount+ until November.
