That was a game. Shouldn’t have gone as far as it did yet a good game. Two great plays by Fermin. Somehow the Royals enjoy making the opposing players look like Cy Young winners and MVPs. Feltner only allows three hits in seven innings? Stallings, hitting way below the Mendoza line drives in three with two out in ninth? Against our closer? Interesting game made great by Fermin. Never should have gotten close to a great game.
On the one hand, I could see losing the game that way being absolutely devastating. On the other hand, had they won it conventionally, I'm not sure it would have meant much.
I know you don't believe in momentum, but how about confidence, willpower, morale, and competitiveness even in the face of certain defeat? Because I think all of those things were proved and reinforced by coming back to win that game after almost giving it away. I feel like that actually bodes better for the Royals' future than had they simply won it 2-0.
No, a 2-0 win doesn't carry the same cachet as a 4-3 comeback victory in extra innings. It's good that they battle back to win. Maybe that's a springboard. But we've seen wins like this in the past that feel like a "turn the corner" moment that's quickly washed away.
So, I guess I should re-evaluate my assumption that we'd win 12 games against the White Sox this year, huh? What a painful, painful game. I disagree with the observation that a 2-0 win wouldn't have meant much; I would have taken it as an indication that a very struggling offensive team could still take care of business--and take advantage of really good pitching--to win at home, sans drama. The top of the 9th was sit-com stuff, and you almost wouldn't believe it in that context. Bless the fans that stayed.
All wins are important, even in April against teams like the Rockies. I think it's more that a 2-0 win wouldn't have been notable in the larger picture. No one would've marked it as a potential turning point. Now? Maybe. Have to see how the rest of the month goes.
Agree on the fans who stayed. I wonder how many got up to beat the crowd with two outs in the ninth.
Disagree, respectfully. After that roadtrip, a boring 2-0 win might (depending on the remainder of the season) easily be noted as a place the Royals learned what they needed to do.
It is rare I think this, but I heartily disagree with you Craig. Freddies pick and homer - great. Waters stepping up - great. Maikel's performance - great and not so great. A win- thanks be. But in general this game was hard to watch, like watching a bad little league game when your nephew is riding the pine. Can't imagine watching this game if I didn;t have a horse in the race. Fotrunately the gods of sleep had mercy on me, and I saw most of the end dozing in and out streaming in bed. (Rewound to find there wasn't some miracle performance by the rockies to go ahead in the 9th). When the spouse and I converged in speaking consciousness in the am, we both said laughing at same time "what a bad game"
Oh, I thought this game was dreadful. The only thing good about it was the win. At one point, I thought to myself that if Sherman wanted to be a man of the people, he would've taken over CrownVision to apologize to the fans and offer refunds.
I thought about going today for the doubleheader. Two games is usually a winner for me. But I don't know if I need to subject myself to that many hours of this brand of baseball.
Am not and never have been comfortable with Estevez closing - 9 BB in 11 IP completely NFG.
Lights out Lucas for this idiot typist with Harvey and Lynch as Firemen. Estevez has to earn his return.
What a shot in the arm if Waters develops after years of disappointment. Shan't be holding breath.
WTF- why not have Vinnie join MJ and get his swing and swagger back? Canha to first base. SOME-
thing needs to happen, some risk taken or a terrific starting rotation goes for naught.
Freddy just might have become a cult hero last night. What guts he shows on the field and at the mike with his halting English. He loveable or what?
Garcia almost perfect on steals last year and now pulls a brain dead like that. This team can't even
steal a bag any more. However, Garcia made a fantastically athletic play with that tag.
You are right, Mr. B, that win could have saved the season.
Estévez has to be on thin ice, one would think.
I'm not sold on Waters. Nice game, though.
Fermin is really a perfect dude for the role he has on this team.
I’m not sold on Waters either. I’ve always been a fan since the Atl trade. Hope it works out. One of my favorite Royals oddly.

Any team that can't take two of three from Colorado has some questions to ask. We'll see how these next two games shake out.

Every day brings something different.
Exactly we’ve seen this too many times. One can hope though.
That’s what things like that do for sports. Help turn a corner.
I think you describe majority of royals fans emotions. I'm in a AL CENTRAL group chat and I may have let off few choice words about the game lol
You have an AL Central group chat??? I am equal parts impressed and horrified.
Yep it's pretty fun. It's actually a fb page that administrators post game threads and other central related news.
It use be fairly active by all teams but last few yrs has slowed down. Only tigers and royals fans are active..
I'm in the administrators group chat where we discuss pretty much anything and it is definitely interesting.
The trouble I would get myself into...as if I don't enough already.
I'd need activity from White Sox and Twins fans. That would be a ruckus.

Anything is possible. We shall mark this win down on our calendars to revisit at the end of the season.
I have rescheduled my therapy sessions around the date; so, I’ll not forget….
