My heart stopped when Witt got up throwing that ball. He's very lucky he didn't immediately give them a chance to score that run after all with a wild throw to first.
Still, best win of the season so far for the Royals and definitely a game they would have lost last year.
It's been said that this team is at a stage of growth where they will have to learn how to win the close games. So, it's cool to see they are winning close games while learning how to win close games.
Massey will get it as soon as he’s ready to go. Which is a matter of days I would imagine. Guessing Loftin will go back down and Q will be rotating Frazier/Renfroe/Massey in some fashion.
My dog lifted her head with concern when I sighed upon seeing Frazier and Renfroe back to back on the lineup card last night. But I do have to throw a bone to Frazier, he did make an amazing diving catch to keep the sox going up at least 4-2 in that last game of the series. Was definitely not a fan of Renfroe right out of the gate, but maybe that homer granted him a little more patience. Hampson is very forgettable but for some reason I am kind of okay with it. Maybe i am ok with giving these old guys a little more time to warm up because the team is winning. Maybe i am believing the solicited comments from the younger guys of the veteran presence contributing to the clubhouse chemistry and knowledge. Pretty sure if Royals fall below .500 at least one of them will be in my doghouse.
It’s all good as long as the wins are there. Still early but I haven’t seen the need for the three you mentioned. Two? Sure. At this point, I’ll stay out of Q’s way and let him sort it out. He seems to do that fairly well.
After last night's win, I found myself thinking all they have to do is take one of the next two to win the series, and that will be great because the key to success in baseball is winning series. And that's absolutely true. But then I started thinking about how many times the Royals' season has been effectively over by May 1 because of a long, often double-digit losing streak right out of the gate, and I thought, we're overdue for an early double-digit winning streak. Maybe it's greedy, and it definitely feels like crazy talk coming from a Royals fans, but there's nothing in the rule book that says we can't win 10 or more in a row.
I went back and looked for the last time they rolled off 5 in a row in April. I forgot about 2021. Probably because their strong start was quickly flushed. I should probably go through all the years and see how often it’s happened.
It's probably happened more often than we think, but for the same reasons you (and I) forgot about 2021, it sure doesn't feel like it. Hopefully, this year's team can avoid the same fate. That doesn't mean they have to win the division, but it'd be nice if the bottom didn't completely fall out before the official start of summer.
All I ask is for some competitive ballgames. And that’s what we’ve seen so far. Hopefully, as you say, they can maintain this level of competitiveness.
Besides…it’s the AL Central. I’m expecting the unexpected.
It’s not Hampson-specific. It’s about the free runner on second in extra innings. An ode to the commissioner who doesn’t seem to understand or particularly like baseball. I’ve seen it referred to as a “ghost runner” and it is most definitely not that. So I’ll use Manfred Man.

Yeah. I was going to comment on that but the post was running way long. I’ll chalk it up to adrenaline. Plus, I’ll never doubt Bobby.
This team is fun to watch.
So much better than this time last year.

Hahaha. Amazing how that works.
Agree with you on Frazier. He’s not the solution. Either Massey or Loftin needs to take the job this season.

For sure Blinded by the light. Wrapped up in the 10th, another Salvy roper in the night.
Couldn’t resist CB
It kind of…works?
Well, you get the credit. After all, the pitch was a cutter on the outer edge, belt-high. Just where Coach likes it.
Swing away, Coach.
Doo wah Salvy
Hitty dumb
Hitty do?
Why do you call Hampson Manfred Man?
