Matheny seemingly has a fascination with using relievers for more than one inning. Not sure that's the best move since I think most relievers now are not used to sitting and going back out. Maybe it just stands out to me since that helped cost them two games over the weekend. Barlow seems to be able to handle it but not sure anyone else on this staff can.

I think he is trying to squeeze every last out from each pitcher-starter and reliever. Which leads him to being just too slow with the hook. And as we get deeper into the season and fatigue is a factor, it’s going to cost them more games.

Yes, it would help if a starter would go more than 5 innings at some point. Although that seems to be the way the game is evolving. You almost need 10 good relievers now, so you can stash a few in the minors and rotate them in.
