Denny is comfort. I like how he's accepted Jake in the booth and how they work together. I've always wished (especially in the later years) that he showed more enthusiasm. I get the reasoning behind it, but I'd like the call to better match the moment. Not talking Tom Hamilton in Cleveland excitement, but just...more.
I love listening to Denny, and have the radio guys on even when I am watching. He has seemed to miss a few calls this year, but he gets a pass from me. Pairing him with Eisenberg is a great combo, they smooth out each others rough edges. Eisenberg adds the giddy excitement, and king of cool Denny keeps Jake from throwing out too many bad dad jokes.
Eisenberg was doing his uni descriptions just prior to introducing Denny the other night. Denny signed on with "good thing you aren't color blind"
Ragans is a stud's stud. Sure helped he got 18 of 26 first strikes. No wonder he was so efficient.
Noticed in the 4th he displayed exasperation at two straight blown pitch calls (pathetic umping).
Loved it when Freddy F immediately called time and went to the mound to calm him, joined by
the entire infield. Atta boy, FF. What a jewel. Now if he could hit a little . . .
Vinnie started even more miserably last year, so maybe he's just a slow starter. It happens.
Don't understand why they don't at least take pity on MJ, send him down and save him further humiliation. Get the feeling some significant moves are imminent.
Do you buy Sam Long's inflammation or are they just giving him a break; he's out of options so
maybe IL-ing him is a way to keep him around and hope he and Sweeney can figure it out?
Great point on Fermin. I think both he and Sal have some really great instincts back there.
I think that maybe it's been bothering Long and just got to a point they couldn't ignore it any longer. Of course, the performances question the wisdom behind that.
Ragans was great. It was a fun game to watch except for the same "out" routine for MJ and Hunter. MJ is absolutely lost at the plate, he needs to be optioned NOW. Let him learn to hit again, if he can, in AAA or even AA. I have a strong feeling, once down he will never come back.
Man, when Ragans is on there is no one better. He's struck out more than anyone in MLB so far this season. Just absolute dominance and I hope he stays in KC forever.
I also hope he learns how to hydrate better. After the game, Q said the reason he pulled Ragans with two outs in the eighth was that he signalled that he was experiencing some hamstring cramping. I was initially annoyed at Q for not letting him keep going but now I understand that.
What I still don't understand is burning Erceg AND Estévez for four outs. Use one of them and give yourself more bullpen availability for A.) If something goes wrong or B.) the next couple of games.
I'm going to open up this conversation and I don't have an answer, because I still think it needs to play out. Who has pitched better in a Royals jersey? Cole Ragans or Zack Greinke?
I love hearing “swung on and missed, strike 3!” from Jake Eisenburg on the radio whenever Cole Ragans starts. Music to my ears.
I listened to most of the game on the radio yesterday. Jake is really good.
What are your opinions on Denny? I can appreciate him, but I feel like it can be hard to figure out what’s going on at times because he’s so monotone.

Yeah, I agree with you on excitement. I guess 50 years of mediocre/bad baseball will do that to you.

Doh! I was trying to ignore the hitting today! I have a feeling I'll be writing about it a lot this week.
