I was wondering about why the Royals were ahead of the Twins in the standings myself. My best guess was Kansas City comes before Minnesota alphabetically.

Makes sense. Confusing, but makes sense.

I'm sure that's it, but you can still blame Manfred. I won't stop you.

Always blame Manfred.

I actually groaned out loud when I saw Schreiber was coming in. I realize they're going to need him.

Still, thought the margin was too narrow. He got some calls.

HUGE clutch Isbel hit. To me, he and Garcia are in a dead heat on a merry-go-round for most frustrating hitter. Both are poor decision-makers. They really need to step it up for the next 20.

The classy response to Cueto's exit brings to mind the standing O that Miggy Cabrera was given in '12

when he clinched the Triple Crown. Made me tear up, watching him holding his baby girl and waving.

Made me proud to be a Kansas Citian.

PS-you misspelled devastating. I always struggle with that one, too.

It was clutch from Isbel. He’s frustrating because when he fails he looks really bad. But when he succeeds, it’s usually just something solid and steady. Never spectacular. I remain strangely good with him at the bottom of the order.

I knew I misspelled devastating! My spellcheck didn’t catch it and I forgot to go back and figure it out. I’m going to fire my editor.

Thank you for the shout out to Cueto - the kid earned it and everything you said was correct. Respect is given where respect is earned and Johnny you earned it! And a big thank you to the fans who recognized that!

I couldn't help but appreciate the Lorenzen/Cueto comparison last night as the game went on, I was thinking "is this our new JC?" We shall see!

Great article CB!

Thanks, Coach. I love when parallels can be drawn. Even if it is a bit of a stretch. Still fun to consider.

The story of Lorenzen converting from a position player to a pitcher makes me wonder if the Royals could do the same with Nate Eaton. Last season he threw an inning and looked pretty decent. The smallest of small sample sizes of course but it doesn't appear as if he has a path to the bigs as it is.

I got that idea last season when it looked like he was never going to be able to hit his way out of Omaha. My thought was that he did have a decent glove and could enter the game as a late-inning defensive replacement, being available should they be in danger of running short

of relievers.

Yes and with his speed he could be used as a pinch runner
