A late, and brief, newsletter today. Pretend you're reading this on the West Coast or something. Or in Kansas while trying to poach the Royals from Jackson County.
Growing up near the state line, I kind of like that idea! As for the current state of the team, we may be seeing some regression to the mean. At least they’re going through this bad stretch before the trade deadline.
Yes, and also it could make the front office think about whether to mortgage any of the future for a season where they may end up about a .500 team regardless. Or whether to trade some of the present for the future.
"Although, if there’s a less interesting patch of land in the metro than where the Truman Sports Complex is located, it just might be the Legends"... seriously? I'm a lifelong resident of the area. Born and raised in KC, the last half of my life raising kids and grandkids on the Kansas side. That sentence makes zero sense, unless you're just throwing things out in anger. It's certainly not true. There are multiple things in and around the Legends - actually too many to list. I've been a season ticket holder off and on for both our Royals and Chiefs so I'm all too familiar with the nothingness surrounding the Truman Sports Complex. I understand long-standing residents of Jackson County dissing a potential move to (gasp!) Kansas. But there is absolutely no comparison to the crappy area around the current stadiums and the opportunities presented with The Legends. I honestly hope the Royals end up in Downtown Kansas City. Baseball should be in a downtown environment. The Chiefs could really upgrade their stadium and gameday environment by a move west.
No anger here. Lifelong resident as well. Just not a fan of corporate sprawl. Sporting’s stadium is a gem. Every time I go I’m amazed at how far they’ve come. (Current situation aside.) Other than that, I haven’t found a reason to visit the area. To be clear, I’m talking specifically about the Legends. I also have been on the record as stating I don’t care where they play. As long as it’s in the metro, I’m good.
As I mentioned, I can see how it would be tempting for the Royals ownership group because there’s plenty of land still to develop for their ballpark village. More sprawl but that’s how those guys make their money.
I live in Arizona, so yesterday's game was from 6:40 until I quit watching around 7:30 because being down 2-1 felt like being down 10-1. Feel really sorry for you guys in KC who stayed up late to watch this awful offense.
As I told you earlier this spring, a new stadium(s) straddling the state line with a 50/50 cost split between MO/KAN would be a great solution to the so-called Border War. I love the picture, but really wonder how practical it really is?
Hahaha...you were on it! And I don't think it's practical at all. Maybe the stadium on one side with the state line just beyond the wall in right. It would be cool to hit a baseball to another state. Nice little quirk to go along with the fountains and the scoreboard. It's the best rendering we've seen. What took someone this long to figure it out?
Yeah i find it interesting that the new depictions have decent fountains and a crownvision, which im sure every 4th grader to senior citizen would have rendered as well. Im all in on the idea of a border stadium, but the logistics make me wonder if they are already asking sacramento if they can play there in the interim.
Thank you Bobby! Royals needed a win to get outta that cesspool that was the late great Colliseum

Indeed on the timing. It underscores the issues and the urgency to address those issues.

Is there any kind of logical reason that this team has historically fared so poorly
on Western swing road trips, primarily in California? I could feel this Oakland
disaster coming but I kept thinking, "No, not this team." Ha!
I think it just kind of happens. I do not like staying up late for California baseball.

When will the boys start playing some watchable ball?
We’d all like to know. These Oakland games…ugly.

The Royals look like they are out of gas. No energy in the dugout or on the field.
