Is Marsh the one calling his pitches ala Greinke? He should probably stop thinking and throw the gas

I can't imagine he's calling the majority of his pitches. Maybe some with PitchCom? Still, he has to execute and he really wasn't getting it done last night.

To be fair I have been in and out of sleep during these West coast games, but think I heard the radio guys saying he was calling most of them now via pitch com, idk, could have been dreaming. Wasn't dreaming for that outing against the Yanks tho which was great

I think Marsh knew that should have been Lynch IV's spot in the rotation, so he wanted to honor him. But at least the bullpen looked better, right?

That's cold, Jim!

I probably should've mentioned the pen. Five innings, five strikeouts, no walks. More importantly, no runs. Like Quatraro said after the game, he probably should've pulled Marsh after the high-stress third. Could've been a different game.

If I had a time machine and could watch one MLB player in his prime, it would be Willie Mays. And that kind of hurts to say, given I was a little too young to enjoy 1980 George Brett.

Regarding the game, I can understand leaving Marsh in given the two weeks without an off-day coming up.

Yes on Mays. I’ll add Clemente is a close second for me. I was locked in on Brett’s prime and while he was always THE GUY, I feel like Mays just had this next-level presence. The great thing about all these guys are their layers to their respective games and debate we can have as to their greatness.

I had not looked up Mays, thanks for the link, just knew him as most baseball kids from the 70s did. What is crazy is he slashed .274/.356/.472 in 1951 and was still good for .211/.303/.344 in 1973. 1951-1973!! Who knows what his numbers would have been if he hadn't taken off 1953 for what I assume is Korea. I know its a different game now, but I am thinking the Royals would love a 42yo Mays as OF platoon

Seem to recall Marsh commenting after his admittedly brilliant Yankee start last week that he "knew"

he could dominate at this level of competition. Dude, if you can't even handle a bunch of AAAA hitters like the A's would it not be best to keep your braggadocio to yourself?

Don’t mind the confidence. Some nights, you just don’t have it. And he’s a mid-rotation type guy so there will be a few times during the year where it looks like a favorable matchup, but if he’s having difficulty locating or can’t get a feel, it’s going to be a rough night.
